Guest lecturers:
- Francis H. Glorieux – Professor of Surgery, Pediatrics and Human Genetics, McGill University. Director of Research, Shriners Hospital for Children, Montreal, Canada.Dr. Glorieux is known for his long-standing work with bisphosphonate treatment of children with severe forms of OI. He has also described some of the newer types of OI.
- François Fassier – Pediatric orthopaedic surgeon. Chief of staff, Shriners Hospital for Children, Montreal, Canada. Director of Pediatric Orthopaedics at McGill University. He has extensive experience caring for children with OI. His work includes developing the Fassier-Duval rod, a telescopic rod specially designed for children with OI.
- Hans Pruijs - Pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Wilhelmina Children's Hospital, University Medical Centre, Utrecht, Netherlands. He has extensive experience with orthopedic surgery and follow-up of children with OI.
- Erik Fink Eriksen – Professor of Endocrinology at Oslo University Hospital. Extensive experience in diagnosing and treating osteoporosis. He has worked extensively with bisphosphonate treatment, also in adults with OI.
- Kathleen Montpetit – Occupational Therapist. Head of Rehabilitation Services and Outcomes Coordinator at Shriners Hospital for Children in Montreal, Canada. She has worked with children with OI for over 20 years. Her work focuses on increasing mobility and independence in everyday life as well as on habilitation, rehabilitation and measuring functional outcomes in connection with fractures and surgery.
Conference purpose
In addition to providing up-to-date information within the different topics, our goal is for the conference to contribute to improved routines and guidelines for the treatment, follow-up and (re)habilitation of patients with OI. Following this conference we will arrange for additional seminars where specific medical professionals can draw up suggestions for more consistent guidelines.
